Chapter 2 - First creation

“Edit a monster?”

Lu Yu eyed the five items before him, unsure.

“Do I just choose a few and combine them?”

<Correct. Choose freely. You may combine any number of materials based on your intent. Fusion alone does not guarantee power—it is your will that shapes their potential.>

Descriptions appeared beside each item.

The blood-stained yellow cloth was the Unknown burial cloth from the corpse of an unidentified being. Tainted by its blood, it had absorbed a malignant aura and acquired eerie powers. Direct contact could drain one’s life. (★★★)

All materials were ranked from one to ten stars, with higher ratings indicating greater power or origin.

Materials could be gained through system rewards or extracted from real objects—though extraction could fail.

The blue orb was a Pure Soul, the legendary 21-gram essence said to ascend to Heaven after death and bring eternal bliss.

That was the Western view. In the East, souls crossed the Yellow Springs, passed over the Bridge of Helplessness, and drank the Waters of Forgetfulness before reincarnation.

Regardless of belief, the soul was a source of deep mystery.

The blade fragment was a leftover from some battle. (★ — Essentially junk.)

The flame was called Hellfire, a corrupted blaze from the netherworld. It held destructive, corrosive power that could annihilate the living. (★★½)

The pocket watch was the most intriguing:

<(★★★★) Broken Pocket Watch

Once worn by an unknown entity, it carries faint traces of time and shadow. Transcended from mortal artifact but also tainted by the blood of an evil god. It exudes madness.>

“Madness, huh…”

Lu Yu studied the floating gold watch. Its hands ticked slowly, appearing ordinary but the crimson stains radiated a sinister aura.

Yet it held a trace of time’s power.

And in every world, time and space were the highest laws.

No god or invincible being could resist time’s flow. In the end, they were all dust in the river of eternity.

Despite the risks, Lu Yu wasn’t afraid.

Now that he had the Monster Editing System, he knew: if he wanted to grow stronger, he would need to harvest endless materials—from beasts, from heroes, even from the evil gods beyond the cosmic wall.

Those gods were powerful, chaotic, insane. A mere wisp of their essence could unleash slaughter and madness in any world.

“Hah… looks like the peaceful life’s over,”

Lu Yu exhaled, but instead of sorrow, his eyes gleamed with excitement.

He had long grown tired of mediocrity.

Now, he would ascend step by step—until he sat atop the Throne of the Forbidden, an eternal, undying existence.

He raised his hands. Gray energy surged forth, like a sea god commanding the storm.

A strange sensation filled him. For a moment, he felt as though he controlled the laws of the world.

With a thought, the five materials floated before him, their glow intensifying with each star they bore.

Monster editing wasn’t about tossing things together randomly.

Sure, you could mix them all—but the system warned: the more perfect the combination, the stronger the resulting monster and its gifted power.

In other words, as the creator, he had to edit this monster himself.

“Editing is not about mere combination, but making something from the infinite possibilities through your will!”

Lu Yu softly whispered the system's prompt. With a flick of his finger, he directly knocked away the one-star blade fragment!

This fragment might be combinable, but its essence was far too low. Including it in the creation would only drag down the monster’s potential—all harm and no benefit.

He was a man who pursued perfection and would never allow his first creation to be marred by such a glaring flaw!

As for the pocket watch, Lu Yu chose to put it away. The precious power of time it contained should be used on a more suitable item.

Having done these two things, Lu Yu turned his gaze to the materials before him—a soul, a flame, and the shroud of a mysterious cloth. A clear idea had already formed in his mind.

It was a monster that had once appeared in a story he read in his past life!

“Hand of Chaos, stir the order of fate!”

As if whispered by a divine being, the entire gray space began to shift. Threads of laws and rules intertwined in Lu Yu’s palm, and the three materials were firmly gripped in his hands.

“Be born, my first creation…”
