Chapter 9 - Forgotten Entity
As the voice fell, everyone turned to look in the voice's direction.
Under the pitch-black night sky and the pale crescent moon, a figure appeared at the corner of the street. He emerged from the shadows, walking as if through a deserted world.
He was dressed in black, wearing a faceless mask, and held a yellow balloon in his hand. The balloon was covered in childish, graffiti-like drawings, giving it a strange and eerie air—as if he had just returned from a masquerade.
Yet, through the mask, a pair of indifferent eyes could be seen—eyes that looked down upon the world like a god.
The sudden change stunned everyone, even the Spider Priest stopped in its tracks.
It crushed a small car underfoot, raised its increasingly distorted head, and fixed all eight of its eyes on the figure. In a deep voice, it asked:
“Who are you?”
The masked man looked on calmly and replied:
“Have your master ask me instead. You’re not qualified.”
The man was none other than Lu Yu, who had just arrived. He scanned the dozens of spiders on the ground, his eyes practically lighting up.
All of them were materials!
Even if the drop rate was one in ten, this would still yield several venom sacs!
And this Spider Priest was clearly stronger than the rare monsters he had previously encountered—surely it would drop even better materials.
To avoid revealing his identity, Lu Yu had decided to disguise himself as an ancient and powerful entity to mislead everyone.
After all, he still didn’t understand the upper structure of this extraordinary world, nor whether it would view a monster creator like himself with hostility.
Laying low and developing in secret was always the safest path. And names—those couldn’t be carelessly revealed.
This was a world of eldritch gods. Though his name came from two different worlds, who could guarantee these gods didn’t possess name-based curses?
Caution was essential.
The Spider Priest froze for a moment at Lu Yu’s words, then erupted in fury.
How arrogant! Was he claiming to be an eternal god like the Spider God himself?
Only a god could hear his true name?
“You arrogant fool! Do you think your bluffing will scare me? Someone as lowly as you could never be compared to the great Spider God!”
The Spider Priest bared its fangs and straightened up, glaring at the faceless man. Yet it sensed no aura of power from him.
Which meant... this man was probably just bluffing—a trick by humans.
As a former human who had shed his lowly origins to become a noble Spider Priest, it knew well the deceitful tactics of mankind.
“Stupid bug-brain,” Lu Yu said softly, his tone calm yet making the priest’s twisted face contort even further.
No anger, no shouting—just utter disdain.
That scorn enraged the Spider Priest more than anything.
It raised two sharp limbs and smashed the already flattened car in front of it into pieces.
Metal shards flew, embedding into nearby walls.
Having mutated, it was increasingly losing its human reason, replaced by beastial madness—driven by rage and hunger.
After Lu Yu’s mockery, it no longer wished to toy with these humans. It would sacrifice this city and earn the Spider God’s favor, ascend to Morning Star rank or even higher!
Then it could establish a kingdom of spiders among humans and feast at will, no longer needing to hide.
The priest’s eight eyes spun with excitement as it shrieked:
“Kill him! Eat him!”
With that, eight hidden spiders leapt from the shadows, jaws wide open as they lunged at Lu Yu.
The Spider Priest itself charged, then leapt high into the air, its bladed limbs glowing with dark energy seemingly capable of shredding anything.
Unlike lesser monsters, it always went for the kill to leave no chance of survival.
“Watch out!” the commander shouted but then remembered: what good would a warning do against something of near-Morning Star rank?
This mysterious man had tried to scare the enemy but had been seen through!
Yes—how could someone with no aura possibly be a true powerhouse?
“It’s over. We’re finished…”
That thought filled every heart. Some even closed their eyes, unable to watch what they assumed would be Lu Yu’s gruesome end.
Fear and despair swept through the humans.
The Spider Priest sensed it all. Looking at the motionless Lu Yu, it laughed maniacally:
“Die!”
Lu Yu looked up at the approaching spiders. To be honest, he was nervous—his heart was racing.
After all, this was the first time he’d faced so many monsters… and while putting on a show, no less. He almost wished for a photo to commemorate it.
But there likely wasn’t a photographer brave (or foolish) enough to snap pictures in this situation.
Still, he had his reasons for being confident.
With a slight smirk beneath his mask, he released the yellow ribbon from his hand and whispered in his heart:
“Fear Balloon, activate Life Draining Aura!”
Ding!
The Fear Balloon did not disappoint. Its drawings lit up, and a blood-red ring expanded around Lu Yu and the balloon—growing rapidly.
BOOM!
A surge of terrifying magical energy blasted skyward, scattering clouds like a nuclear explosion. The shockwave rippled in all directions.
All the spiders, including the Spider Priest, were hurled away, crashing into the ground and tumbling violently.
Even humans in the distance staggered back. Some of the weaker ones collapsed entirely, while untouched spider monsters trembled in place.
This… was the power of a Two-Star monster: the Fear Balloon!
The commander’s eyes widened in disbelief.
“This power… It’s…”
“Morning Star rank!”
The Spider Priest shrieked in terror, its voice filled with disbelief as it began retreating. Even its eight legs couldn’t steady its trembling body.
So many thoughts swirled through its mind. It didn’t know why such a being had appeared but it knew its plan had failed.
It had to flee.
Now!
It wasn’t a Morning Star monster yet—it couldn’t die!
It turned and ran without hesitation, abandoning its followers. Its eight legs worked at full force.
But Lu Yu had no intention of letting it escape. He gave the Fear Balloon a gentle squeeze.
The balloon responded, and the crimson ring expanded skyward like a rising blood moon, ominous and powerful.
The moon-like ring radiated dread as it chose its prey.
Hiss…
All spider monsters within range began to emit blood-colored mist, drawn from their bodies into the sky.
As the mist was siphoned out, their bodies shriveled like dehydrated trees—reduced to mummified husks.
The Spider Priest saw this and panicked. But as it tried to flee, it realized it couldn’t move—its lower half was already dried up. It stumbled and fell.
It could feel its life force draining and it was powerless to stop it.
Its eight eyes bulged, but it couldn’t resist. All it could do was scream as it died:
“I’m not willing…!”
Thud!
With the Spider Priest’s fall, all the spider monsters were slain—drained of life and reduced to corpses.
“What… what is this power?!”
The humans, led by the commander, stared in awe.
The once unstoppable monsters had been annihilated by the mysterious figure’s aura.
Yet this scene—this felt like the descent of an Eldritch God.
Could it be? Had one awakened?
The commander had this thought but immediately shook it off.
No, no… Eldritch Gods wouldn’t save mortals. This had to be a powerful human.
Yes—just an unusually gifted one!
Lu Yu didn’t care what they thought. Even if he knew, it wouldn’t matter to him.
He calmly approached the spider corpses, looking down at the shriveled Spider Priest.
“You crossed the line. Now you face the consequences.”
With a tap of his finger, the priest’s body shattered. A glow unseen by humans was drawn into his hand.
He turned to leave.
As he passed each spider corpse, they crumbled into ash. Occasionally, one emitted a faint glow, as if saluting his departure.
The humans watched, stunned.
The commander finally came to his senses and called out:
“Who are you?”
Lu Yu collected the materials into his storage and paused to think. He had a decent impression of the commander—he might need their help to access the supernatural world.
So why not deepen the disguise? This identity could serve as his mask.
After a moment of thought, he continued walking, holding the balloon. Without looking back, he answered:
“Just someone the world has forgotten.”
As he spoke, hellfire flared around him. The black flames merged with the darkness, and his figure vanished—leaving behind only the ruined spider corpses.
