Chapter 11 - Spider God
The cultists of the evil god offered sacrifices on altars to receive rewards in return. But now, those cultists had been instantly obliterated by the Fear Balloon, rendering the altar that Lu Yu had previously seen useless.
As an altar used to worship an evil god, it was bound to have some rare treasure placed upon it, serving as a medium to communicate with the deity.
Taking advantage of the military still being in disarray, Lu Yu quickened his pace and headed toward the building where the cultists had been.
Relying on his memory, he arrived at the front entrance, destroying the security cameras along the way.
Looking at the door blocking his path, Lu Yu smiled slightly and slowly lifted his leg—
Bang!
He kicked the door open but didn’t enter immediately. Instead, he tossed the Fear Balloon inside to scout the area.
The Fear Balloon, unaware of Lu Yu’s intentions, naively wandered around joyfully, even calling for Lu Yu to join it. But Lu Yu ignored it.
After ensuring there were no traps, Lu Yu swaggered inside. But the moment he crossed the threshold, he was hit with an overwhelming stench of blood mixed with rotting corpses.
"What a disgusting smell!"
Lu Yu frowned and scanned the room's layout.
The floors and walls were covered in blood-painted eerie and evil runes.
At key points lay shriveled hearts and severed limbs—the source of the horrid stench.
In the center of the ritual formation sat a massive root-like lump of flesh. Twisted symbols were carved onto it, seemingly forming a name.
The markings curved together like the eight eyes of a spider when seen from afar.
The appearance of evil gods was always a product of human imagination—no one had ever seen them, nor did anyone truly understand them.
Even their names were merely phonetic approximations by humans, not their true names.
It was all mere speculation and delusion by humanity, so it was no surprise there weren’t any actual statues of the evil god.
In the corner of the room lay several mutilated corpses. Judging from their clothes and nearby photographs, they appeared to be the original owners of the building.
Lu Yu looked at the horrified and pained expressions on their faces, sighed, and said:
"I've already killed them. You can rest in peace now."
With that, he summoned his Hellfire Whip, lashing it out to ignite the corpses. Black flames spread along the blood, gradually consuming and enveloping them.
Perhaps it was just Lu Yu’s imagination, but as the corpses burned, their expressions seemed to relax slightly, no longer as tormented.
Eventually, they turned to ash and were carried away by the wind.
After finishing, Lu Yu approached the strange "statue" and studied it. Noticing the eight obsidian-like eyes, he reached out and pried them off.
"So it’s not black diamonds, but obsidian? This stuff’s supposed to ward off evil. Are you sure it’s a good idea to use it for a statue of an evil god?"
He couldn’t help but mock it. After all, in his previous life, obsidian was commonly used in protective charms. Who would’ve thought it’d be used for an evil god here?
But thinking of the sheer power of the evil god, Lu Yu understood—
It wasn’t that obsidian was ineffective; the evil was just too strong!
It didn’t matter what kind of protection you had—in the end, it came down to strength!
Still, despite his sarcasm, Lu Yu didn’t hesitate to pocket all eight pieces of obsidian. They were good-quality material and might fetch a high price.
After prying out the evil god’s "eyes", he searched the room but found nothing else of value.
"But just a few pieces of obsidian hardly count as a treasure," he muttered.
Looking at the strange statue again, he noticed something odd—it emitted a faint fragrance, even in this putrid room.
"Could it be…?"
A thought struck him, and he immediately activated his Material Extraction ability on the statue.
Crack, crack, crack—
The statue began to disintegrate. A white light slowly emerged—it was a successful extraction!
How many stars is this material?
Please let it be a five-star material! Even a four-star one would be fine!
Lu Yu muttered to himself, reaching out to check its properties. But the moment his hand touched the material—
Crack—!
His vision shattered like glass, spiderweb cracks spreading everywhere. It was as if reality had broken into pieces!
"What’s happening?!"
Lu Yu was shocked. But before he could react further, his surroundings began to twist and transform. The webs became denser, and the threads grew larger—as if he had entered the world of a colossal spider.
And within the vast, pillar-like threads of this web-world, Lu Yu saw a grand, terrifying, indescribable reflection.
He only caught a glimpse—a pitch-black abyssal shape—but his instincts screamed at him to look away, or he would die.
Never gaze upon a god directly! Not even if it hasn’t noticed you!
The evil god— Atlach-Nacha!
The horrifying Spider God rested deep within the illusory web-dream world. It hadn’t awoken and stayed between dream and reality.
Yet even in slumber, its breath—like a gentle breeze—felt like the miasma of the abyss, twisting Lu Yu’s thoughts with madness, making him want to rip his mind apart.
His body convulsed with pain as his bones, flesh, and organs began to warp—as if he was transforming into a spider!
"Damn it!"
Lu Yu struggled to resist. Even if he died, he refused to become a grotesque human-spider abomination!
Suddenly, a cold mechanical voice sounded in his ear:
<Detected evil god presence… Activating protection mode… Initiating boundary exit from Dream Realm… Countdown: 10… 7… 6…>
A more powerful force expelled the mutating presence from his body, and space around him began to fracture—this was the system preparing to pull him out.
Lu Yu averted his gaze, doing his best not to look at that terrifying figure again. Such entities could leave an eternal nightmare in one’s mind with even a brief glance.
Still, it didn’t suit Lu Yu’s style to leave the lair of an evil god empty-handed.
A bold idea suddenly formed in his mind:
The system’s power seems even stronger than this spider god’s…
In other words—my backing is strong enough!
The countdown continued:
"3… 2… 1…"
Just as the number hit one, a radiant, dreamlike light enveloped Lu Yu. It was like the eternal chaotic light itself, pulling him from the spider's realm.
As he was being taken away, Lu Yu looked up once more at that twisted reflection. The moment he did, horrifying power surged into him through his eyes, trying to twist his very soul.
But the system’s force was absolute—it purged the corruption, keeping Lu Yu’s body and spirit intact.
Having now tested the reliability of his system, Lu Yu smiled even wider and said softly:
“Brother Atlach, I finally made it here. I should at least bring back some souvenirs, right? But don’t worry—I’ll grab them myself…”
And with that, he vanished in a flash of light.
Within the formless, intangible light, a pair of massive, blood-red eyes snapped open. The spider’s world could not withstand the pressure and shattered.
From the broken void came an incomprehensible voice
"Who dared to steal my body?"
