Chapter 12 – Successfully Escaped
A flash of light passed, and Lu Yu found himself back in the bloodstained room once more!
He inhaled the familiar stench of gore and rot but this time, there was no disgust in his heart. Instead, he felt a wave of relief.
“I can’t believe it actually worked!”
Lowering his head, Lu Yu looked at the shimmering, snow-white thread in his hand. Words couldn’t express his excitement.
He’d successfully stolen from an Evil God!
Though a lingering sense of corruption gnawed at him, he had, at the very least, escaped the Dreamland Realm in one piece.
And to his knowledge, Evil Gods could not directly descend into the material world. Any attempt to do so would be repelled by the world’s natural order.
That was the source of Lu Yu’s confidence. Knowing the Great Old Ones couldn’t manifest directly, and with the system as his backing, he dared to attempt such a brazen move!
<Spider God’s Silk
A thread from an eldritch god of unknowable origin. Though spider-like in concept, no one has ever seen its true form—those who have were driven to madness and perished.
Divinity cannot be gazed upon. Every part of a god is far beyond mortal understanding, infused with madness-inducing divine power. Once entangled in its silk, escape is near impossible.

And this was just silk. If it had been a fang, tear gland, limb, or other appendage, it might have been 6-star… or even 7-star material!
Just a few 3-star materials had been enough to create the Fear Balloon—a Morningstar-level monster capable of destroying an entire city.
If he could gather enough high-grade materials... wouldn’t creating a god become possible?

Just the idea made Lu Yu swallow hard, his mouth suddenly dry.
Evil gods stood at the peak of existence. Humans were merely their playthings—pawns to be moved around at will. If not for certain constraints preventing them from descending into the real world, mankind would’ve been long extinct!
Even now, the faint seepage of their presence into the world left humanity scrambling to resist, barely surviving.
But Lu Yu was different. Once he created a god-tier monster, he would receive one-tenth of its power or more depending on the creature’s rating!
That was the shortcut Lu Yu had found on his road to the ultimate power—safe, efficient, and terrifyingly effective.
With divine power in his grasp, not just this land but even those beyond this world would be his to face. Only then could he truly control his own destiny.
As for the statue he had extracted the material from—it had crumbled, but the description remained:

Lu Yu snorted. Without the system’s protection, he would’ve already mutated into some grotesque spider-beast and become the Great Old One’s slave.
He clenched his right hand slightly, crushing the now-useless material into scattered motes of light.

Lu Yu raised an eyebrow.
“Do I get any rewards for unlocking higher levels?”

“So even 9-star or 10-star materials could be in the mix?”
Lu Yu was stunned. If he could get even a single 9-star material, the dream of creating a god wouldn’t be a fantasy anymore. He quickly followed up with:
“Any other achievements I haven’t completed yet? Can you give me a hint?”

The system’s reply was still mechanical and devoid of emotion.
Lu Yu didn’t take offense—after all, this achievement system was already a generous bonus. Giving out hints would’ve been way too overpowered.
Dusting himself off, he retraced his steps out of the building. Only after ducking into a shadowed alley and removing his coat and mask did he return to his own room.
Inside was a mess. The windows had been completely shattered, and the room looked like a storm had hit. He’d probably be questioned by police tomorrow.
Fortunately, the spider outbreak had affected many households, and he had incinerated the monster corpse thoroughly. There shouldn’t be any suspicion directed at him.
After tidying up what furniture remained intact, Lu Yu headed to the bathroom, took a hot shower, and washed the sweat-soaked clothes.
Even though he’d avoided directly staring into the eldritch god, just those brief glances at the unknown horror had drenched him in cold sweat.
Still, the fact that he’d successfully stolen from it made every drop of sweat worthwhile!
After drying his hair, Lu Yu locked the bedroom door, pulled the curtains shut to avoid any interruptions, and began sorting through today’s haul.
Besides his divine theft from the Great Old One, he’d also slain dozens of spider monsters including one spider priest. Despite some failed extraction attempts, the day’s rewards were considerable.
First: Spider God’s Silk—his highest-grade material so far, and it was 5-star!
Second: Venom Sacs from rare monsters—he had successfully extracted four more, totaling five in his collection.
And from the spider priest boss… he had extracted something that shocked even him.
