Chapter 13 - Unexpected Material

Mutated Twisted Spider Egg

The Egg from the mother of a Twisted Spider which was about to evolve into a Morning Star-class monster. It has undergone mutation due to the erosion of vast amounts of flesh and the aura of an evil god. It now possesses enormous potential far beyond its progenitor. As it is in an unborn state, its star rating is based on potential rather than actual power.

Ratings : 5 stars】

The Spider Priestess’s… egg!?

That fierce-looking, flesh-faced, gruff-voiced, ugly spider was female!?

What kind of joke is this?

Lu Yu felt his worldview begin to collapse. The shock wasn’t any less than the impact of confronting an evil god face-to-face.

But then again, in the world of spiders, females were indeed more powerful. And no matter how ugly the Spider Priestess was, she had already been slain by him. She wasn’t about to crawl back from hell to gross him out again.

What caught his attention, however, was this peculiar material—it wasn’t part of a corpse but rather an unhatched egg.

And it was rated three stars. While this rating reflected its potential, it clearly suggested this egg could one day reach Morning Star-class or even higher.

“Does this egg count as a living creature?”

Lu Yu sank into thought. This wasn’t idle curiosity; it had deeper implications.

Could living beings be used as editing materials?

If so, it meant that all lifeforms in the world could potentially be edited and enhanced!

Even something like the Fear Balloon could undergo second or third edits, growing stronger in step with Lu Yu, rather than being discarded like a used tool.

Lu Yu was someone who held onto things—whether in this life or the last. Back in school, he wouldn’t even throw away used-up pen refills; he’d find a place to keep them.

Though the Fear Balloon was clumsy like a goofy deer, it was still the first monster he’d ever created. He couldn’t just abandon it one day, leaving it lonely in some forgotten corner.

Unable to suppress his curiosity, Lu Yu asked the system directly in his mind.

<Egg- or embryo-form creatures have not yet fully developed and are still classified as material. If the creature inside has already formed and is about to hatch, it can no longer be edited.

As for secondary editing of monsters, the host currently does not possess the necessary permission level.>

“My current permission level? So, if I level up, I can edit them?”

Lu Yu instantly caught the hidden implication. In other words, the limitation wasn’t absolute—it was because of his insufficient access rights!

“So as long as I keep leveling up my permissions, I could unlock more editing capabilities?”

As always, the system replied in its emotionless, mechanical tone:

<Yes, Please continue upgrading your permission level.>

Lu Yu’s lips curled into a small smile. He had gotten the information he needed—more permission meant more power to manipulate and enhance monsters!

At that moment, Xiao qi floated over with its bright yellow body, letting out a curious “Yiya~” noise, wondering why its master suddenly looked so happy.

“You’re a Morning Star-class monster, and you still act like a fool…”

Lu Yu chuckled as he reached out and stroked Xiao Qi’s round balloon-like body—or perhaps its head. He’d expected a rough texture, but it turned out to be smooth and silky, like the finest satin.

From others’ reactions, he had already learned that “Morning Star” was a rank above ordinary awakened beings, and a highly prestigious one.

“This cloth… It might be the shroud of a powerful entity. Just a bit of blood soaking it can trigger an ominous aura. What kind of being was it wrapped around?”

Lu Yu pondered for a moment, then gave up on the thought. Whoever it was, they were already wrapped in a shroud—clearly long dead. It had nothing to do with him.

He motioned for Little Qi to float aside, then took out all the materials he had gathered!

Since he had harvested so many, there was no way a monster editor like him would let them gather dust in a warehouse!

“System, begin editing!”

With Lu Yu’s soft command, a gray, invisible mist emerged in the air, slowly enveloping him, transporting him once again to that chaotic, lawless space.

Here, Lu Yu felt as though he could weave the laws of existence itself—as if he were a supreme being, a creator god.

This time, he didn’t rush into editing. Instead, he took his time to absorb and savor this overwhelming power. But sadly, its mysteries ran far too deep.

Though the system let him use it freely, understanding it was a completely different matter.

It was like a toddler being granted the answers to every complex math problem in existence via cheat codes but with no clue how to solve the problems themselves.

Lu Yu stopped trying to understand the power’s essence and instead waved his hand, summoning all the materials.

At the very top floated the Spider God’s Silk, glowing with a faint purple light—the most powerful among them. Beneath it was the four-star pocket watch, drifting peacefully in the gray mist like it had no interest in worldly affairs.

Compared to these, the other materials were like dim stars beside the moon—utterly unremarkable.

But today, Lu Yu’s focus was on the spider egg.
