Chapter 15 - New abilities

<Void Shadow Spider Egg

Description: Born from the mutated egg of a Twisted Spider, tainted by the blood of an unknown evil god, this egg has formed a tenuous link to the Void, undergoing a transformation into a Void-aligned creature.

Within it resides the power of Time and Shadow—shadow and the flow of time are its primary sources of sustenance. Upon hatching, it will possess Morningstar-level strength and a connection to the River of Time. Though not adept at combat, its potential is immense.

Abilities:

Void Venom Sac - Capable of injecting void venom that causes a target’s body to collapse.

Mark of Time -With a faint link to the River of Time, it has cleansed its presence, making it immune to most divination, rituals, and detection by powerful beings (Passive skill).

Shadow Servant - After absorbing enough shadows, the Void Shadow Spider can spawn a Shadow Servant in spider form. A maximum of 10 can be created. These assassins can meld into shadows and are unfailingly loyal.

Void Vault - As a being that naturally drifts within the Void, it can open a personal subspace to store non-living objects. The stronger it grows, the larger the storage.

Rating: Four-Star

Evaluation: Excellent!

Time until hatching: One month>

“This thing’s stats are insane… It’s stronger than the Fear Balloon straight out of the egg! Sure, it needs time to grow, but this is just broken—being born at a level others take a lifetime to reach? Most of its abilities aren’t for combat, though. No wonder it’s not specialized for fighting, but Morningstar-class is still Morningstar-class!”

Lu Yu couldn't help but marvel at the extravagant stats. This was hands-down the most powerful creature he had ever created. The only pity was that it needed a month to hatch.

Still, he decided to take the month to live low-key—gather information on the power structure and levels in the Awakened world, and explore the cultivation system.

As he pondered his next steps, the system's voice rang out in time:

<Ding! Achievement Unlocked

Elite Editor: Created an Excellent-grade creature.

Reward: 1/10th of the Void Shadow Spider’s power and the right to solidify two of its skills as your own.>

The moment the announcement ended, an overwhelming force—far stronger than what he received from the Fear Balloon rushed into Lu Yu’s body, causing an intense feeling of discomfort.

Fortunately, the surge quickly began enhancing his physical attributes, even strengthening his soul.

It was like clearing and expanding an overgrown field—his meridians, organs, and body structure were being refined and stretched.

After a full ten minutes, the strengthening stopped. The energy within him had grown over three times stronger!

If his former self was a small water bottle, then now he was a large kettle.

And this was from a combat-weak, unborn creature!

Had it been a stronger, higher-tiered beast, receiving even a tenth of its power might’ve burst him apart.

The thought alone made a black line appear on Lu Yu’s forehead. The last thing he wanted was to be killed by power overload—what a ridiculous way to die.

Determined not to let that happen, he vowed to toughen his body until it was practically indestructible—layer after layer of muscle, until even enemies couldn’t put a dent in him.

Still, that was easier said than done.

Coming back to the system’s prompt, Lu Yu spoke decisively:

“I choose Mark of Time and Shadow Servant.”

He had no shortage of attack methods at the moment. What he needed were defenses against strange, supernatural threats.

The Mark of Time was ideal—it shielded him from detection, especially useful after exploiting the spider evil god. Even if he created alter egos later on, he wouldn’t have to worry about being easily traced.

As for Shadow Servant, it resolved his lone wolf predicament—useful for scouting and battle support.

Besides, what’s cooler than commanding a bunch of shadowy spider assassins?

Power might be temporary, but style is eternal.

Two beams of light entered his body. On his right hand, a glowing arc-shaped rune appeared, resembling an ouroboros—a snake eating its own tail.

This was the Mark of Time.

From today forward, he no longer had to fear being seen by diviners or fate-users.

The Shadow Servant skill, however, required him to absorb shadows from living beings to craft his servants. That would have to wait until tomorrow.

As his skill solidification finished, a translucent interface only visible to him popped up:

<Host: Lu Yu

Creations: Fear Balloon, Void Shadow Spider (unhatched)】

Skills: Hellfire Whip, Life Draining Aura, Mark of Time, Shadow Servant

Authority: One-Star Monster Editor

Materials: Twisted Venom Sac ×3, Silk of the Spider Evil God ×1>

“Huh, a status panel now? This system’s getting more and more considerate.”

Lu Yu praised it with a chuckle, but as usual, the system didn’t respond.

With the skill solidification complete, the surrounding gray mist dissipated, and Lu Yu returned to his room.

Familiar layout, familiar scent… the only change was the Fear Balloon floating wildly on the ceiling.

“Eee-ya-eee!”

The moment it noticed Lu Yu was awake, the balloon zipped over, wobbling its yellow spherical body excitedly.

“I seriously suspect you’re a husky in disguise.”

Lu Yu patted its head, then reached into his clothes and pulled out the Void Shadow Spider Egg. A formless aura emanated from the golden egg.

“mii…?!”

Sensing the aura, the Fear Balloon’s reaction was like a startled kitten. The twisted human face on its surface grew even more terrifying, clearly trying to intimidatebbut even while posturing, it slowly floated into a corner like a paper tiger.

“Coward. Sit down and shut up.”

Lu Yu laughed and scolded it playfully, then turned to the egg and said gently:

“This is Xiao Ba. Your new companion. Play nice, alright?”

Spiders have eight legs, so Xiao Ba (Little Eight) made sense. With the balloon named Xiao Qi (Little Seven), they made a good pair—easy to remember, and sounded good together.

Hearing this, the Fear Balloon’s scary face morphed back into its usual dopey look. It cautiously floated back, raising one of its yellow ribbons like a hand, gently tapping the spider egg.

The egg, still undeveloped, didn’t react—it couldn’t even if it wanted to.

But Xiao Qi, realizing the egg wouldn’t fight back, grew curious and started poking at it from different angles with its ribbon blissfully teasing danger.

Eventually, Lu Yu had to tie it to the coat rack just to get some peace. The balloon stared at him with wide, wronged eyes.

Lu Yu ignored its silent plea and tucked the spider egg safely into his clothes.

This was a four-star potential beast—if it got lost or damaged by that silly balloon, he’d probably go berserk.

Only by keeping it close could he feel at ease.

With everything done, Lu Yu finally felt fatigue set in. He was still human, after all.

Just as he was about to wash up and sleep…

Ding-dong.

The doorbell rang.

“Is anyone home? We’re from the Special Division. Please open the door.”
