Chapter 22 - A New Entity

Three masses of shadow began to twist and distort, writhing ominously like the mud incarnate of All the Evils of This World from the Type-Moon universe, as if some ancient monster were about to awaken within them.

Gurgle!

A sound like spring water trickling through a mountain stream echoed out from the shadowy mud, and the amorphous shapes slowly began to morph—like a sugar artist molding soft candy into shape.

As they transformed, shadow energy surged forth, causing the room’s temperature and lighting to drop noticeably. Even with the lights on, everything felt shrouded in a dim haze.

Taking advantage of the moment, Lu Yu calmed his mind and began to grasp the principle behind [Shadow Servent], letting his consciousness slowly sink into the shadow itself—that vast, mysterious power!

Shadow energy was not inherently evil. It was simply a part of the world's structure, beyond the distinctions of good and evil. It held no malicious thoughts, only eternal silence.

The Land of Eternal Silence.

No sound. No thought. No mind. No form. As if embraced by a Dark Mother Goddess, Lu Yu’s consciousness was lured into eternal slumber.

“Sleep… sleep… the eternal abode… the silence of homeland…”

Whispers stirred in his mind like a gentle spring breeze, soothing Lu Yu’s spirit, seeking to erase all fluctuations in emotion.

At the same time, his awareness drifted deeper into the realm of shadow. In a hazy moment, he seemed to sense an unspeakable entity—a being so vast, so bizarre, so unknowable, he couldn't make out its form. And yet, he was drawn to it, his consciousness slowly approaching it through the shadow realm.

It felt like returning there was the true destination of life, the origin of all things, the key to the mystery of the soul…

<Unknown entity detected... Assessing threat level... Automatic erasure initiated…>

The system's voice rang out within Lu Yu’s mind, snapping him awake in an instant. His consciousness rushed back to his body.

Lu Yu trembled violently. Beads of sweat rolled down his forehead and traced lines down his cheek, falling to the floor with an audible drip.

Wiping his forehead with his sleeve, he muttered with lingering fear:

“I almost got assimilated by the shadow... and became food for that entity…”

He had dived too deep into the understanding of shadow energy, to the point of integrating with the shadow realm itself and even sensing the presence of some great being.

That eternal silence and the being’s aura nearly devoured his consciousness, almost turning him into a puppet of the shadows.

Fortunately, the system erased the presence in time, and the entity itself seemingly didn’t notice a small fry like him. Otherwise, not only he, but the city beneath his feet would have been reduced to ruin.

Still, this served as a warning—never carelessly immerse oneself in unfamiliar energies, no matter how neutral they appear.

He had originally intended to further explore the sources of hellfire and time, but now he decided to put those plans on hold.

He would wait until he had the strength and confidence—until he could hold those powers firmly in his grasp—before delving deeper.

Besides, this world clearly hid many secrets. The whispers he heard earlier had already begun to fade rapidly, like forbidden memories slipping away like sand through his fingers.

Still, Lu Yu forcefully retained many of those impressions, though he had no intention of speaking them aloud. Instead, he buried them deep in his memory.

This was no longer the previous world where one could joke freely. Here, terrifying beings truly existed. Even uttering their names or pondering them too long might attract their attention.

“Could it be that at the source of every energy… there lies such a being?”

A bold theory took root in Lu Yu’s mind. If true, it might uncover a truth so horrifying it would shatter the sanity of countless cultivators.

“But what's the point of dwelling on it now? I have the Monster Editor System. As long as I keep creating stronger monsters, someday I’ll stand on equal footing with those beings and unravel the true nature of this world.”

After a moment of contemplation, Lu Yu encouraged himself. This wasn’t wishful thinking. If he could birth creatures capable of reversing time or devouring galaxies, he too would wield immeasurable power.

Besides, this expedition into the shadow realm was not in vain. Lu Yu could clearly feel his control over shadow energy had advanced significantly.

He believed that soon, he’d be able to wield this power in actual combat.

Raising his head slowly, Lu Yu saw that the three shadows had already solidified into humanoid forms—tall figures with no facial features kneeling before him in absolute silence, their posture showing complete loyalty.

“So these are the Shadow servents?”

Gazing at the three humanoid shadows before him, Lu Yu could feel an invisible connection tying them to him as their anchor and master.

He could control their life and death with a single thought—destroying their core and returning them to formless shadows.

“To grant life or take it away… No wonder they’re called ‘servents’.”

Lu Yu murmured softly, somewhat approving of this absolute control—it would be crucial for intelligence gathering in the future.

With that thought, he looked at the three shadows coldly and asked:

“What abilities do you possess?”
